Entrants pay an annual eligibility fee of $50.00 in addition to the horse show entry fee. Since no sustaining payments are necessary, the UPHA Classics programs attract a wide variety of participants who own and show Hackneys.  For complete UPHA Classic rules, click here.

The UPHA Hackney Pony Classic Championships are held each November at the American Royal Horse Show in Kansas City, MO. AHHS - YOUTH MEDALLION SERIES
Open to junior exhibitors under 18 years of age in the Pleasure Driving Pony/Horse, Roadster Pony, Roadster Under Saddle, Pleasure Pony/Horse Under Saddle, Youth Hackney/Harness Combination, Pleasure Driving Pony/Horse (Reinsmanship), and Showmanship In-Hand Pony/Horse divisions. By qualifying in local medallion classes, a combination of junior exhibitor and pony may compete in the National Medallion Championship Finals vying for the national title in each division, and scholarship awards. This program encourages youth involvement with Hackneys as they are acquiring show ring skills, developing friendships and competing for the prestigious title of Youth Medallion National Finalist. A special medallion is awarded to winners of local medallion classes and certificates of qualification are sent to each entry. The National Final will provide special gifts and events for all participants along with national recognition. 1995 brought the addition of two new divisions, the roadster pony under saddle and Hackney/Harness combination class. Now the pony that is shown in the Ladies or Amateur division can also compete with the youth, encouraging family participation.

For listings of shows offering the classes or information on adding a class to any horse show please contact the AHHS office. The National Medallion Championship Finals is held at the UPHA/American Royal Horse Show in Kansas City, Missouri.

LIMITED BREEDERS' WEANLING STAKES AND 3-YEAR-OLD PERFORMANCE CLASS
Mare owners purchasing horse or pony stallion services at the annual Limited Breeders’ Stallion Service Auction makes the offspring of the resulting cross eligible for this annual weanling class and the 3-year-old performance class (starting in 2010). All revenue from service fee, less costs, generate the prize fund producing the richest weanling class available to Hackney owners. Bids on stallion services begin at ½ the advertised fee and sealed bids are acceptable. The auction is held annually in January. No further entry fees are due after payment of the stallion service fee. Two divisions are offered, dividing the horses and ponies.  Any foal which as eligible for the weanling stakes will also be eligible for the three-year-old performance class.  Ponies will be shown to a two-wheeled roadster type vehicle.  Class will be shown entering the ring clockwise at a park trot and an extended trot and same gaits on the reverse.

AHHSF - ADULT AMATEUR DRIVING CHALLENGE
The purpose of this program is to promote the showing of the older Hackney ponies, by amateurs, at smaller shows in a designated tri-state area (Ohio, Michigan and Indiana).

AHHS - OPEN COMPETITION PROGRAM
Open Competition High-Point Award program was designed to acknowledge and honor the achievements of Hackney horses and ponies who compete in events against all breeds. To be eligible a horse or pony must be a registered Hackney Horse or Pony. Both the owner and all riders/drivers must be current AHHS members. Both the event (show) and the class entered must be open to all breeds.
Points are then awarded for the open events they compete in.
Most new owners discover the breed through friends and seeing Hackneys at shows and events. Open Competition allows the Hackney world to recognize the breed’s best ambassadors.

OTHER HACKNEY PROGRAMS:

U.S. DRESSAGE FEDERATION - ALL BREEDS PROGRAM
Designed to reward excellence in dressage to a variety of breeds which participate nationally, the USDF offers the All Breeds Awards Program. For more information, please visit the USDF All Breeds Awards Program page.

U.S. DRESSAGE FEDERATION - BREEDER OF THE YEAR PROGRAM
The award is designed so that small as well as large breeders can participate. A breeder with at least two horses in either the performance or dressage sport horse breeding categories can qualify. If a breeder has more than five horses participating in either category, only the scores from the top five will count for this award. Breeders can be foreign or from the United States. However, to be eligible, a breeder must join USDF as a Participating member, Business member or Group Member Organization member by the end of the competition year in question. In other words, to be eligible for 2007 award year, breeders must be a USDF member by September 30th.

Breeders are reminded to check their USDF "Breeder's Portfolio" on the USDF web site, www.usdf.org, to ensure that all horses they have bred that compete in performance or in-hand classes are in their "portfolio" list. The 'breeder" is the person legal entity listed on the horse's registration papers. For this award, USDF cannot combine horses "bred" by a farm with horses "bred" by one or more owners of the farm; each is a separate "breeder" entity.

A change in the name of the recorded breeder can only be authorized and performed as an official entry on the registration paper by the registry that issued the registry papers on file with USDF. A copy of the amended registration papers must be submitted to USDF prior to any changes in the USDF database.
