The American Hackney Horse Society Foundation, Inc., (AHHSF) was established in 1994 with contributions from the American Hackney Horse Society and a group of Hackney enthusiasts, their focus being; to preserve the past, promote the future and improve the breed of the American Hackney.

With this in mind, the outlined goals of the AHHSF are:

  • Informing the general public about the exhibition, use, and history of the American Hackney and the improvement of the breed.
  • Encouraging safe equestrian activities and educating youth with respect to safe and proper horsemanship,
  • Showing of the horses/ponies to promote the formation of youth organizations,
  • Disseminating educational materials and awarding scholarships to participants in youth programs.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
In the following you will find endowments currently established with the AHHSF. Should you wish to support the Foundation in a monetary fashion, please remember that the AHHS Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation, therefore all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. We encourage you to participate in the support of the breed by making a donation to the Foundation or the fund that interests you the most.

Current AHHSF Activities And Projects

  • Road Pony Camp Tuition Scholarship Fund
    • Awarded annually for children to attend the Shamrock Farms' Road Pony Camp based on an essay contest. Covers all but transportation. Go to Newsflash for more information.
  • The AHHSF Adult Driving Challenge
    • Designed to introduce the adult driver to the Hackney breed through academy type classes. This class may be added to any horse show at no cost to the show. The AHHSF will pay the cost of the trophy. Class regulations are available from the AHHSF or the AHHS.
  • The AHHS Foundation Scholarship (View/Print Application)
    • Awarded to High School Graduates on the basis of submitted evidence of academic success, financial need, extracurricular activities (including community service), involvement with Hackney Horses and/or Ponies and personal references.
  • The Alvin Haugen Memorial Educational Scholarship Fund (View/Print Application)
    • Awarded annually to an incoming college freshman based on Hackney involvement, community services, scholastic ability and financial need.
  • The AHHSF Youth Medallion National Winners Educational Scholarship Fund
    • Youth Medallion National Champions receive an educational scholarship to the accredited college or university of their choice upon winning their respective divisions at their national finals.
  • The Educational Resource Center Fund
    • The center has historic memorabilia which includes photographs, trophies, a set of Great Britain Stud books, vintage reading materials, works of art, and eventually, a computer terminal where visitors can access the registry data base. Everyone is welcome to visit the center, which is located next door to the Society office at the Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.
  • The AHHSF Memorial Fund
  • Production and Distribution of Children's Activity Books
    • Available at the cost of $3.00/book or $2.00/
      book in large quantities for groups.
  • Promotional Display Booth with Television/VCR combination
    • Available to groups and organizations interested in promoting the Hackney breed. For more information, contact the AHHS office at 859-255-8694.
